This place ticks all of the boxes. Its right off of the Street Market, so if you are feeling like you need a stop off during the shopping or just while you're taking a walk, I would suggest stopping in here. A friend and myself stopped in while the other part of the group was shopping on that particular hot day during Memorial Day Weekend. The staff was amazing. Even though they were completely packed they gave everyone top notch service and attention. Toni and the others working were so much fun. The locals sitting around us were more than willing to chat and tell us about the city and places we should check out.
We had a few beers, enjoyed the music, and the people. If you are looking for a place to hangout, please do yourself a favor and stop in to Henry's!!!!!
Tip: You can also catch the horse carriage tours right outside -

So, I really loved this place until I ate a meal there. All thrills of the ambiance and thrill of the history and rooftop bar went away when my meal arrived. I really should've known better.
I would 100% go back for drinks and maybe a bar bite. But beyond that and getting cute pictures this place is mediocre. Charleston has SO much to offer. Hit their happy hour, get a buzz, and move along for dinner. -

I will begin by saying, straight up, that I am a newcomer to Charleston. I have two hangouts, one being in my neighborhood in North Ashley and the other being Henry's where I sometimes go before or after work.
It is a lovely old building, built to last and tough enough to have survived Hurricane Hugo; a fact the staff is quite proud of and will tell you about it without needing to be asked.
There are two areas to enjoy your food and drink. The rooftop affords you both a view of the harbor and the refreshing breeze rolling in to give you a break from the hot and humid weather. You also might see the cruise ships pulling into port, as the water is incredibly close, and the ships are as big as they are impressive.
Downstairs is the bar and dining room. I've never been there when its quiet. In fact, I'm not sure if "quiet" has ever been used to describe Henry's (I'm guessing, not). But it isn't rowdy, it's just full of happy people, both tourists and locals.
The dining room is filled with visual goodies, and it's fun to let your eyes wander and find portraits of Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Marilyn Monroe.
They have live music, good food, and friendly bartenders. I don't drink, so I'm always a bit shy about ordering a Roy Rodgers (Its just cola, grenadine and cherries... basically a Shirley Shirley Temple. Okay, there. I said it). But not one of the bartenders or waitresses have poked fun at my drink of choice and I wouldn't mind if they did, but the fact that they didn't kinda speaks well of them.
The food kicks it, by the way. Lots of lowcountry fare like Blue Shecrab soup, grits, mac & Cheese with lobster, and.... gator. Yes, I can now say I have eaten gator, and yes, it does taste like chicken. You're welcome.
Basically Henry's is a place to relax and enjoy. I haven't gotten to know the bar staff yet, but I'm hoping to reach the status of Norm Peterson on the old show, Cheers. Like, every time I walk in, everyone will go, "Norm!"
Which will be wierd because my name isn't Norm....
My only request of you, Henry's, is that you have a Karaoke night. Please?
Aaaaanyway, I'll wrap this up with one anecdote. After work one evening I stopped in and had some bar food and my, ah....Roy Rodgers.
No matter how I try, that will never sound badassed.
After that, I sat outside and waited for my ride home. A lady came outside, singing Sweet Home Alabama along with the band playing inside.
She gestured me to join in, which I did. It was great, singing with this perfect stranger, and enjoying the night as we danced in the sidewalk together.
That, boys and and girls, sums up the Henry's vibe perfectly. Go there, and let it all hang out. -

Took a downtown Charleston carriage ride and after an hour in the 90 degree hot sun, we were parched. We found the top deck of Henry's and their 'living room like' setting with the sun shade overhead and got comfortable. Derek was our server and was super nice. We were only there to get refreshed, (as who can eat in 90 degree weather?) And Derek was ready with back up cold Coors Lights the minute ours got low. He was even so friendly that he took a pic with us.
My only suggestion was that they offer a small line of souvenir t-shirts and a few other items. You would have had probably another $50 of our money for 2 t-shirts as we would love to 'represent' and introduce your bar/restaurant to our Pittsburgh friends.
Henry's- we will be back to Charleston and we will stop in for a few beers...! -

I asked a local vendor at the Charleston City Market for a recommendation for lunch and he immediately said Henry's! So, here I went! I loved the interior of this place as you can see and smell the history. It's an old supper club that still has performances. The bar itself screamed history too. The she-crab soup I ordered was nothing short of THE BOMB and filled with lots of crab meat and great flavor. The pan seared red fish was unfortunately flavorless, but the sides saved the meal! While definitely a piece of historical Charleston, it's not a piece of history I'm in a rush to come back to.
